Philippines (Cebu)

The continuous rise of dengue epidemics in Asia in the late 1990s led to close cooperation between GFS, the University of Heidelberg, the University of Cebu, and Valent BioSciences (USA). The aim was to biologically control the vector Aedes aegypti in Cebu using Bti. A control strategy was developed based on the following pillars: elimination and sanitation of breeding sites with strong community participation, and the use of Bti tablets in water containers. The project was very well received by both the government and the local population, which was also reflected in regular media coverage and publications. This collaboration resulted in long-term cooperation between GFS and the universities. Joint conferences on the topic continue to be organized to this day (see certificate).
