Within the “Copernicus” program (2001–2004), a WHO-supported development project on environmentally responsible mosquito control using Bti was carried out in Central Asia.

Under the “Copernicus” initiative, a development program for environmentally responsible mosquito control was implemented in Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan) from 2001 to 2004. The project was carried out in collaboration with local organizations, the World Health Organization (WHO), and Professor Yoel Margalith, the discoverer of Bti from Ben-Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Negev, Israel. The project was funded jointly by the WHO and participating local organizations.
